FAQ's - GPS Vehicle Tracking?
Does the MobileTEENgps™ work in any car?
Answer: Yes, for 1996 and newer cars you can do a plug and play installation using an OBD-II connector, for cars without an OBD-II you can hardwire the device to power.
Do I need a cell phone to use MobileTEENgps™?
Answer: No, MobileTEENgps™ provides a complete service including the tracker, software and network connectivity to the tracker. All you need is a computer or smart phone with an internet connection and a vehicle to track!
Where is it installed on the vehicle?
Answer: We recommend installation under the car's dash near the OBD-II diagnostics plugin. View the Installation Guide (.pdf).
Is it difficult to install?
Answer: Installation takes about 20 minutes. The base model can easily be installed at home, or any mechanic or shop that installs car alarms will consider it to be a relatively easy installation.
Can my teenage disable MobileTEENgps™?
Answer: Yes, however the tracker will report an event when it is reconnected to power.
What if my teen speeds or goes outside the GeoFence area when I'm not at my computer?
Answer: You can setup alerts that are delivered via SMS or email to your cellphone telling what the alert is for and the location. For speeding, it will say what the speed is. For breaking a GeoFence, it will give location to within 30 feet, time of day and speed. You can also view the current location and history from a smart phone with internet connection.
I have three teens, each with their own car. Is there a way to share MobileTEENgps™ between these vehicles?
Answer: While it is possible to switch the tracker between the different cars, the installation does take some time so it is not very convenient. It would make more sense to have a tracker in each car. The unit can easily be de-installed and re-installed if you wish to transfer it to another vehicle.
Will my teens feel as if I'm spying on them and have no trust in their actions?
Answer: Perhaps, however, it's important to let them know MobileTEENgps™ is for their safety. If they have car trouble someone can identify where they are and provide help. It will let them know when they speed and help avoid getting a ticket and keep their insurance costs down. It’s also a way of letting parents know automatically (without having to make a phone call) of when they come and go. Also, if the car is stolen, it can be traced and recovered.
